<persName ref="prs:gray">Gray</persName> transmits a <q>notice of <q>Examination of Masters and Mates &amp;c,</q> together with a complete set of [Masters and Mates] Examination papers.</q> <persName ref="prs:gray">Gray</persName> relates which books are used for examinations and where to purchase the books in London. <persName ref="prs:robinson_w">Robinson</persName>’s minute suggests sending the forms from <persName ref="prs:gray">Gray</persName> to <persName ref="prs:seymour_f">Seymour</persName> and having <q>the <orgName ref="org:ocac">Agents</orgName></q> procure and send the mentioned books to <persName ref="prs:seymour_f">Seymour</persName> as well.

I am directed by the <orgName ref="org:board_trade">Board of Trade</orgName> to acknowledge the receipt
of your letter of the <date when="1868-09-18">18<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> instant</date> inclosing copy of a Dispatch
from the Governor of <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> inclosing
a copy of a letter from the Officer acting as Chairman of the
Pilot Board and Harbour Master in that Colony applying for
printed Forms of Examination of Masters<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">and</fw><pb facs="co_60_34/co_60_34_00363r.jpg"/> and Mates together with
such Books as are used for that purpose.
</p>
<p>
In reply I am to transmit to you for the information of the <persName ref="prs:grenville_r">Duke
of Buckingham and Chandos</persName> &amp; for transmission to the Governor of
<placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> the accompanying copies of the notice of
"Examination of Masters and Mates &amp;c," together with a complete
set of Examination papers.
</p>
<p>
I am to add that the Books used at the Examination Rooms are
"Rapers" and "Nories"<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">Epitome</fw><pb facs="co_60_34/co_60_34_00364r.jpg"/> Epitome and Nautical Almanack and Tide
Tables, which can be obtained at any bookseller, and always at
Mess<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> Potters Poultry Cheapside <placeName ref="plc:london">London</placeName>.
