<persName ref="prs:hamilton_ga">Hamilton</persName> states that the royal marines stationed on <placeName ref="plc:san_juan_island">San Juan Island</placeName> <q>are entitled to receive additional pay granted by the Order in Council of <date when="1867-08">August 1867</date>, from the date at which such additional pay was granted under the provisions of the Order in Council.</q> <persName ref="prs:cox_c">Cox</persName>’s minute suggests contacting the Admiralty. <persName ref="prs:rogers_f">Rogers</persName>’s minute questions why this correspondence is going through the <orgName ref="org:colonial_office">Colonial Office</orgName>.

The <orgName ref="org:treasury">Lords Commissoners of Her Majesty's Treasury</orgName> have
had before them your letter of <date when="1868-06-16">16<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> ult<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi></date> enclosing copy
of a letter from the <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Admiralty</orgName> with one from the Naval
Commander in Chief on the Pacific Station asking for
instructions as to the payment of arrears of Colonial Pay to
the Detachment of Royal Marines at <placeName ref="plc:san_juan_island">San Juan</placeName> from <date when="1867-04-01">April 1<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">st</hi></date>
to <date when="1867-12-31">Dec<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> 31<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">st</hi> 1867</date>.
</p>
<p>
I am to state for the information of the Secretary of State,
that as it would appear to My Lords clear from<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">the</fw><pb facs="co_60_34/co_60_34_00400v.jpg"/> the correspondence
which took place in <date when="1860">1860</date> that the detachment which was stationed
at <placeName ref="plc:san_juan_island">St Juan</placeName> was to be granted extra pay equal to the
regular pay of the Force, My Lords are of the opinion that the
men who are serving at that station are entitled to receive
additional pay granted by the Order in Council of <date when="1867-08">August 1867</date>,
from the date at which such additional pay was granted under
the provisions of the Order in Council.
