 On behalf of <persName ref="prs:pakington">Pakington</persName>, <persName ref="prs:lugard">Lugard</persName> informs <persName ref="prs:grenville_r">Buckingham</persName> that, despite <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>’s financial situation, the claim <q>for Revolvers and Ammunition left by <persName ref="prs:moody_rc">Colonel Moody</persName>, [and the] Royal Engineers</q> cannot be dropped. <persName ref="prs:lugard">Lugard</persName> states that <persName ref="prs:pakington">Pakington</persName> <q>has however no objection</q> to letting the claim stand in <q>abeyance until the necessary funds become available.</q> <persName ref="prs:cox_c">Cox</persName>’s minute discusses the state of the claim from the War Department.

I am directed by Secretary <persName ref="prs:pakington">Sir John Pakington</persName> to acknowledge the
receipt of your letter of the <date when="1868-02-26">26<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> February last</date>, requesting
that a claim, amounting to £675.2.4 made by this Department
against the Government of <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> for Revolvers and
Ammunition left by <persName ref="prs:moody_rc">Colonel Moody</persName>, Royal Engineers, on loan for
the use of the Colony, might be withdrawn<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">on</fw><pb facs="co_60_34/co_60_34_00459r.jpg"/> on account of the
Embarrassed state of its finances. And I am to acquaint you for
the information of His Grace the <persName ref="prs:grenville_r">Duke of Buckingham and Chandos</persName>,
the Secretary of State regrets that he is unable to comply with
this request.
</p>
<p>
<persName ref="prs:pakington">Sir John Pakington</persName> has however no objection to allow the
Settlement of the claim to remain in abeyance until the
necessary funds become available.
</p>
