The Delegation which I reported, in my Despatch N<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi> 32, of the
<date when="1870-04-05">5<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> ultimo</date>, that it was my intention to send to <placeName ref="plc:ottawa">Ottawa</placeName> to
discuss with the Canadian Government the terms proposed for
Union with the Dominion, will proceed upon that mission by the
Steamer which takes this<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">Despatch</fw><pb facs="co_60_38/co_60_38_00474v.jpg"/> Despatch to Your Lordship.
</p>
<p>
2. <persName ref="prs:trutch_jw">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Trutch</persName>, the Chief Commissioner of Lands and Works, has
not been absent from the Colony for five years. As he will be
at <placeName ref="plc:ottawa">Ottawa</placeName> so far on the way towards England, whither he desires
to proceed on private affairs, I have granted him three months
double vacation leave of Absence, to take effect from the
termination of his duties at <placeName ref="plc:ottawa">Ottawa</placeName>. He will report himself at
the <orgName ref="org:colonial_office">Colonial Office</orgName> on his arrival in <placeName ref="plc:london">London</placeName> and will be<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">able</fw><pb facs="co_60_38/co_60_38_00475r.jpg"/> able
to afford Your Lordship any information which you may require in
respect of the progress of the negociations in which he will
have been engaged. I place much confidence in <persName ref="prs:trutch_jw">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Trutch</persName>'s
ability and discretion.
</p>
