Blanshard writes Grey from Panama to inform of his arrival there, on route to Vancouver Island. Blanshard adds that he has heard nothing from Hornby with regards to further passage.

Jadis minutes that Hornby could not afford passage to meet Blanshard, and that Pelly has been so informed.

Decembr 26. 1849. My Lord,

I hereby beg to inform you of my arrival at Panama on my way to Vancouvers Island, on the 28th of November; I have as yet heard nothing from Admiral Hornby, relative to my further passage, nor have I had any opportunity of communicating with him, by the Lima Mail Packet, which sails tomorrow, I intend to forward to the Admiral a copy of the dispatch dated the 9th August, relating thereto with a copy of which I was furnished by the Admiralty previous to leaving England,
