<unclear><persName ref="prs:rodrester">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Rodrester</persName>'s</unclear> book — &amp; gather from that the way the Americans establish a new <choice><abbr>Gov<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi></abbr><expan>Government</expan></choice> — this account of the "neglect" of the <placeName ref="plc:oregon_territory">Oregon Territory</placeName> will correct his impressions. The Brit: <choice><abbr>Gov<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi></abbr><expan>Government</expan></choice> much abused as it is <choice><abbr>w<hi style="text-decoration: underline; vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">d</hi></abbr><expan>would</expan></choice> not so have neglected its subjects where it had decided

important fact &amp; shews how little some very confident writers upon
<placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">V.C.I</placeName><hi style="text-decoration: underline; vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">d</hi> &amp; applicants to this office for privileges to colonise
it — knew of <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">the Island</placeName>. 3<hi style="text-decoration: underline; vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">ly</hi> it furnishes a proof of the expediency
