Parker writes Merivale on Blanshard's passage to Vancouver Island. Parker states that he is commanded by the Admiralty to forward a letter from Hornby, for the information of Grey, regarding the passage in question.

In the minutes, Blackwood wonders whether or not the HBC should be informed.

This file encloses a draft letter from the Colonial Office to Pelly, which reports that the Admiralty has sent a steam vessel to carry Blanshard from Callao, Peru, to Vancouver Island.

I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of Earl Grey, that Rear Admiral Hornby in a Letter, dated the 12th Jany last, has reported that Her Majesty's Steam Vessel Driver was to sail from Callao, within a week from that time, for Vancouver's Island to convey there Mr Blanshard the newly appointed Governor.
