Parker writes to Hawes to state that Grey does not believe that the expense of Blanshard's passages to Fort Rupert should be paid by the public, and that the Admiralty has asked Grey to have Blanshard pay Wellesley, Captain of the Daedalus, the sum of roughly forty-seven pounds.

In the minutes, Blackwood notes that Blanshard will likely petition the HBC for the cost of his passage.

Included in the file is a draft reply from Grey to Blanshard, and a draft from the Colonial Office to Parker, which forwards a copy of Blanshard's response to the request that he pay for his passage to Fort Rupert.

With reference to your Letter of the 8th Instant, stating that Earl Grey does not consider that the Expence of the Passage of Governor Blanshard on board Her Majestys Ship Daedalus between the 30th of Septr and 9th of Octr last is one which ought to be paid by the Public, I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you that as the Captain of the Daedalus is entitled to be paid for this Passage their Lordships request that Lord Grey will cause Governor Blanshardto to be called upon to pay to Captain Wellesley of the Daedalus the sum of Forty seven Pounds fifteen shillings, being the allowance due to him on account thereof
