Hamilton forwards to Merivale, for the information of Grey, a copy of a letter from Moresby, which discusses the State of Affairs on Vancouver Island.

The minutes agree to send copies of the letters to the HBC.

The first of the included documents is a draft letter from the Colonial Office to Pelly, forwarding copies of enclosed letters; the second is a letter from Moresby to Admiralty, which reports on Moresby's arrival to Vancouver Island and the murder of three British seamen; the third is a letter from Moresby to Blanshard, which reports on the murders; and the final enclosure is a letter from Blanshard to Moresby, which reports on, among other things, the fragile security at Fort Rupert.

I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to transmit to you herewith for the information of Earl Grey, the Copy of a letter dated the 27th June last, No 54; from Rear Admiral Moresby, Commander in Chief in the Pacific, ⎯ and of its enclosures, reporting his Proceedings, and on the State of Affairs in Vancouver's Island.
