<p><persName ref="prs:addington_hu">Addington</persName> writes to <persName ref="prs:merivale_h">Merivale</persName> to pass on an extract of a letter that reports on gold at <placeName ref="plc:haida_gwaii">Haida Gwaii</placeName>.</p>
<p>In the minutes, <persName ref="prs:blackwood_aj">Blackwood</persName> states that <q><placeName ref="plc:haida_gwaii">Queen Charlotte's Island</placeName></q> is outside <orgName ref="org:hbc">HBC</orgName> limits, and so the company need not be informed of the gold; <persName ref="prs:hawes_b">Hawes</persName> adds that it is likely that the Company already knows of the gold.</p>
<p>This file encloses an extract of a letter from <persName ref="prs:miller_xx">Miller</persName> to the <orgName ref="org:foreign_office">Foreign Office</orgName>, which, among things, reports that the master of the <name ref="vsl:mary_dare" type="vessel">Mary Dare</name> claims to have seen a gold piece as large as a <q>Pigeon's Egg,</q> and that <q>somewhat fierce</q> Indigenous people reside on <q><placeName ref="plc:haida_gwaii">these Islands</placeName>.</q></p>
