Osborne, of the Admiralty, writes to Merivale, for Newcastle’s information, to answer an earlier request for a naval presence at Vancouver Island; Osborne relates that Morseby intends to send two Ships of War to the Island.

The minutes ask that Douglas be informed of the ships’ intended arrival.

Of the two enclosures, the first is a draft letter, from the Colonial Office to Colvile, that reports Morseby’s intention to despatch two ships of war to Vancouver Island; the second is a draft reply, from Newcastle to Douglas, that reiterates the same information.

Having laid before my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty your Letter of the 28th Feby, requesting to be informed what measures have been taken with regard to H.M. Ships visiting Vancouver's Island; I am commanded to state, for the information of His Grace The Duke of Newcastle, that a Copy of your Letter has been sent for the guidance of Rear Admiral Moresby who has intimated his intention of of sending two Ships of War to Vancouver's Island.
