Hamilton, on behalf of the Admiralty, writes to Merivale, for Newcastle’s information, copies of Prevost’s correspondence on the mission to obtain redress from the Masset Tribe thought responsible for the capture and plunder of the Susan Sturges.

The many documents included in the file discuss proceedings at Vancouvers and Queen Charlotte's Islands, following the capture of the Susan Sturges, and include perspectives on the incident from Prevost, Moresby, Douglas, and Rooney. A minute, by Newcastle, on the final document, asks that Admiral Price be sent copies of any despatches thought to be currently relevant.

I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to send you herewith, for the information of the Duke of Newcastle, Copies of a Letter from Commander Prevost of Her Majesty's Steam Vl Virago, dated the 23rd July, No 42, and of its enclosures, relative to proceedings in Queen Charlotte Island, and his endeavours to obtain redress for the capture of the "Susan Sturges" American Schooner by the Masset Tribe of Indians.
