The authors of these documents often perpetuate a negative perspective of Indigenous Peoples and it is important to look critically at these mentions. <p><persName ref="prs:hamilton_wab">Hamilton</persName>, on behalf of the <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Admiralty</orgName>, writes to <persName ref="prs:merivale_h">Merivale</persName>, for <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Newcastle</persName>’s information, copies of <persName ref="prs:prevost_jc">Prevost</persName>’s correspondence on the mission to obtain redress from the <soCalled><name type="ip" subtype="group">Masset Tribe</name></soCalled> thought responsible for the capture and plunder of the <name ref="vsl:susan_sturges" type="vessel">Susan Sturges</name>.</p>
<p>The many documents included in the file discuss proceedings at <q><placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouvers</placeName> and <placeName ref="plc:haida_gwaii">Queen Charlotte's Islands</placeName>,</q> following the capture of the <name ref="vsl:susan_sturges" type="vessel">Susan Sturges</name>, and include perspectives on the incident from <persName ref="prs:prevost_jc">Prevost</persName>, <persName ref="prs:moresby">Moresby</persName>, <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName>, and <persName ref="prs:rooney">Rooney</persName>. A minute, by <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Newcastle</persName>, on the final document, asks that <persName ref="prs:price">Admiral Price</persName> be sent copies of any despatches thought to be currently relevant.</p>
