I beg to acknowledge the receipt, on the <date when="1854-05-09">9<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> Ins<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi></date>, of a
letter from your Grace dated <date when="1853-07-07">7<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> July 1853</date>, mentioning the receipt of
my Despatches of the numbers and Dates, noted in the Margin.

<p>
I have also to acknowledge the receipt on the same date of a
circular Despatch from your Grace of the <date when="1853-07-18">18<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> July 1853</date>, referring to
your circular Despatch of the <date when="1854-05-09">9<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> May</date> and further communicating that
the Government of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of the French have
decided that all Foreign prohibited Goods, may be admitted for
Exhibition, at the Great Industrial Exhibition at <placeName ref="plc:paris">Paris</placeName>, and may be
afterwards either re-exported free of all duties, or may be sold in
France, upon the payment of an ad-valorem duty at the rate of 30 per
cent.

I have also to acknowledge the receipt on the same date of your
Grace's Circular Despatch, of the <date when="1853-07-19">19<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> July 1853</date>, transmitting an
order made by Her Majesty in Council, establishing certain Rules and
Regulations, in appeals to <persName ref="prs:queen_victoria">the Queen</persName> in Council, from the Colonies, and
from the Territories of the <orgName ref="org:eic">East India Company</orgName>, with a view to greater
economy, despatch and efficiency, in the appellate jurisdiction of Her
Majesty, and I will according to your Grace's instructions, take the
necessary steps for giving them the most extensive publicity.
