<p style="font-style: italic;">This document contains mentions of Indigenous Peoples. The authors of these documents often perpetuate a negative perspective of Indigenous Peoples and it is important to look critically at these mentions. <p><persName ref="prs:phinn">Thomas Phinn</persName> furnishes the <orgName ref="org:colonial_office">Colonial Office</orgName> with a report by <persName ref="prs:bruce_hw">Rear Admiral Bruce</persName> on the <q>result of an expedition against the Cowegin tribe.</q></p>

<p>The minutes note that <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName> has already reported on this matter minus one detail about the accused tried by a jury composed of expedition officers.</p>

<p>Enclosed is <persName ref="prs:bruce_hw">Bruce</persName>’s account; an account of the expedition from <persName ref="prs:connolly">Connolly</persName> to <persName ref="prs:bruce_hw">Bruce</persName>; and a memorandum from <persName ref="prs:connolly">Connolly</persName> to his troops giving orders and instructions for their conduct when the tribe was encountered.</p>

copy of a letter from <persName ref="prs:bruce_hw">Rear Admiral Bruce</persName>, reporting the result of an

attempting the life of the British Settler</name> was tried by a jury composed
of the officers of the expedition. Put by?
