<p><persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName> informs the <orgName ref="org:colonial_office">Colonial Office</orgName> of the Council’s approval of a House of Assembly Act <q>granting a sum of 130 sterling, chargeable to the Duties on Licensed Houses.</q> And he promises to transmit a copy of <persName ref="prs:cameron_d">Cameron</persName>’s <q>Rules and Regulations of the Supreme Court</q> for <q>Her Majesty’s final approbation of disallowance</q> once the document is <q>transcribed and carefully revised.</q></p>

<p>The minutes <q>Put by</q> until the <orgName ref="org:colonial_office">Colonial Office</orgName> receives a copy of the <q>Rules and Regulations.</q></p>

<p>Enclosed are the Minutes of the Council, <date when="1857-02">February 1857</date>; a letter from <persName ref="prs:cameron_d">Cameron</persName> to <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName> forwarding his <q>Rules and Regulations;</q> and a Proclamation announcing that the <q>Rules and Regulations of the Supreme Court</q> will take effect in three months.</p>

1. I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatches
Nos 18 and 19, of the <date when="1857-10-21">21<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">st</hi> of October</date> and the <date when="1857-11-10">10<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of November</date>
last.
</p>
<p>
2. It is very gratifying to learn that the speech with which I
opened the Legislature on the <date when="1857-08-12">12<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of August</date>, has received your
approval. 
</p>

3. The House of Assembly not having met, for regular business, since my
report of the <date when="1856-01-09">9<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of January</date>, there is nothing of importance to add,
to the information then communicated, respecting its proceedings.
</p>
<p>
4. The Council was convened on the 14<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> day of the present
month, for the consideration of an Act passed by the House of Assembly,
on the <date when="1857-12-18">18<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> day of December</date>, granting the sum of 130 Sterling,
chargeable to the Duties on Licenced Houses, to be applied in the manner
stated in the several clauses of the act, as it appears in the Minutes
of Council forwarded herewith. This Act with some few verbal
alterations passed the Council<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">on</fw><pb facs="co_305_08/co_305_08_00030r.jpg"/> 
on that day, and will be transmitted
after receiving the final approval of the House of Assembly.
</p>

5. The consideration of the Rules and Regulations of the Supreme
Court, for the Administration of Justice in Civil cases, as submitted by
<persName ref="prs:cameron_d">Chief Justice Cameron</persName>, with a communication of which I herewith forward
a copy, was taken up on the <date when="1856-01-14">14<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi></date> and finally passed the Council
without alteration on the <date when="1856-02-17">17<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of February</date>.
</p>

6. A copy of those Rules will also be transmitted for Her
Majesty's final approbation or disallowance as soon as transcribed and
carefully revised, and by that time the official seal of the court, for
which I took the liberty of sending a<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">requisition</fw><pb facs="co_305_08/co_305_08_00030v.jpg"/> 
requisition with my Despatch No 18
of the <date when="1857-08-14">14<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of August last</date>, will probably have arrived in this
country,

and will be attached to the document as directed by Her Majesty's order
in Council.

7. A copy of the proclamation of the Rules and Regulations of the
Supreme Court, published on the <date when="1856-02-18">18<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of this month of February</date>, is also forwarded with this Despatch.
