Banister forwards to the Colonial Office correspondence concerning the appointment of David Cameron.

Enclosed is a letter from Cooper to Banister advising him that he sent a packet containing evidence to substantiate our just cause of complaint respecting the appointment of David Cameron to the Supreme Court; that the colonists had lost faith with the government; and that he was planning on returning to England. Also- a letter from Banister to Cooper, Langford, Bamfield, Yates and Skinner asking if they want to pursue the matter further.

The minutes note that Banister is more judicious than usual.

Also enclosed is a draft from Ball to Banister acknowledging the receipt of correspondence on the subject of the establishment of a Rail road through the British North American Territories to the Pacific.

I have the honor to transmit to you a copy of a letter I have received from Vancouver's Island by the last Mail referring to the matter brought under your consideration last year at the instance of the Colonists of that Colony. This communication acknowledges the receipt of a letter from me of the 10th of July 1856 referred to in the Copy of my letter to them of the 8th of November last a copy of which I beg also to transmit to you.

1. James Cooper to Banister, 2 November 1856, advising that he had sent a packet containing evidence "to substantiate our just cause of complaint" respecting David Cameron; that the colonists had lost faith with the government and "all who can wind up their affairs, are preparing to do so—myself among the number"; and that he was planning to return to England next April or May.
2. Banister to Cooper, Edward E. Langford, William Banfield, James Yates, and Thomas Jas. Skinner, 8 November 1856, acknowledging receipt of their packet, and asking if they really wanted to pursue the matter further.
