Douglas writes to once again encourage his government to press the subject to American officials of the loan he issued to the Washington Territory governors.

The minutes comment that this delay is very hard on Governor Douglas.

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No 5 of the 15th March last, transmitting copy of a Despatch from Her Majesty's Minister at Washington, reporting what had passed between him and the United States Secretary of State, relative to the payment of the money, which I advanced to the Governor of WashingtonTerritory Territory, at a time of great public danger and distress, for the purpose of defending the homes and families of helpless settlers, against the murderous attacks of the Indian Tribes; a course dictated by humanity, and which proved highly satisfactory to Her Majesty's Government.

I am sure that I highly appreciate your Kindness in urging through Lord Napier the immediate repayment of that loan by the United States Government.

I observe the assurance given by General Cass, to Lord Napier that measures, should be taken, without delay for the satisfaction of Her Majesty's Government, in that matter; but in the event of furtherprocrastination procrastination on the part of the United States Government, in the payment of the loan, I trust that your Lordship will have the goodness to press the subject upon the attention of that Government.
