<p><persName ref="prs:corry_htl">Corry</persName> reports the arrival of sappers and miners to <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver Island</placeName> for the survey of the land boundary between <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> and <placeName ref="plc:washington_territory">Washington Territory</placeName>.</p>

<p>The minutes observe that <q>this is a <orgName ref="org:foreign_office">Foreign Office</orgName> affair.</q> The CO surmises that the <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Admiralty</orgName> furnished the FO with the same report and if so they <q>Put by.</q></p>

<p>Enclosed is an extract of <persName ref="prs:baynes_rl">Baynes</persName> to the Secretary of the <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Admiralty</orgName> reporting the arrival of <persName ref="prs:hawkins_js">Colonel Hawkins</persName> and his men on <date when="1858-07-12">12 July 1858</date>.</p>

<p>I am commanded by my <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty</orgName> to send you herewith for the information of Her Majesty’s Secretary of State for Colonial Affairs, an Extract from a letter dated the <date when="1858-08-27">27<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> August last</date>, N<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi> 120, from <persName ref="prs:baynes_rl">Rear Adm<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">l</hi> Baynes</persName> reporting the arrival at <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver's Island</placeName> of the Detachment of Sappers &amp; Miners to be employed in the Survey of the Land portion of the <placeName ref="plc:oregon_territory">Oregon Boundary</placeName>.</p>
