Corry reports the arrival of sappers and miners to Vancouver Island for the survey of the land boundary between British Columbia and Washington Territory.

The minutes observe that this is a Foreign Office affair. The CO surmises that the Admiralty furnished the FO with the same report and if so they Put by.

Enclosed is an extract of Baynes to the Secretary of the Admiralty reporting the arrival of Colonel Hawkins and his men on 12 July 1858.

I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to send you herewith for the information of Her Majesty’s Secretary of State for Colonial Affairs, an Extract from a letter dated the 27th August last, No 120, from Rear Adml Baynes reporting the arrival at Vancouver's Island of the Detachment of Sappers & Miners to be employed in the Survey of the Land portion of the Oregon Boundary.
