Hammond transmits a despatch to the CO from Napier reporting what passed between him and the United States’ Secretary of State relative to the payment of a sum of money advanced by the Governor of Vancouver’s Island to the Governor of Washington territory for the purpose of prosecuting hostilities against the Indian Tribes.

The minutes forward this information to Douglas.

Enclosed is the letter from Napier to Clarendon advising that he was assured Douglas would receive his reimbursement from the United States.

With reference to your Letter of the 25th ultimo, I am directed by The Earl of Malmesbury to transmit to you herewith, to be laid before Lord Stanley, a Copy of a Despatch from Her Majesty's Minister at Washington reporting what passed between him and the United States' Secretary of State relative to the payment of a sum of money advancedby by the Governor of Vancouver's Island to the Governor of Washington territory for the purpose of prosecuting hostilities against the Indian Tribes.
