With reference to the previous correspondence with <persName ref="prs:labouchere_h">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Secretary Labouchere</persName> on the subject of the murder of <persName ref="prs:ebey_in">Colonel Ebey</persName>, a
citizen of the United States at <placeName ref="plc:whidbey_island">Whidbey's Island</placeName>, <placeName ref="plc:washington_territory">Washington
Territory</placeName>, I have now the honor to enclose, for your Lordship's
information, an Extract of a letter lately received from <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Governor Douglas</persName>, dated <placeName ref="plc:victoria">Victoria</placeName>, <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver's Island</placeName>, <date when="1858-01-14">14<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> January 1858</date>,
by which your Lordship will perceive that <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Governor Douglas</persName>
reports that this murder was committed by <name type="ip" subtype="group">some natives of the
