Hawes forwards to the CO a letter with enclosures from Douglas concerning the construction of buildings to accommodate the North American Boundary Surveying Expedition.

The minutes attach the accompanying notes from Talbot and put it by. Talbot notes that Labouchere has long ceased to be Colonial Minister! He apologizes to the CO for sending an unnecessary packet.

Enclosed is Douglas to the Under-Secretary of the War Office transmitting vouchers for sums expended in providing accommodation for Major Hawkins; Account of Expenses incurred by the Hudsons Bay Company, for the Military Cantonments at Constance Cove Vancouvers Island; Account of expenses incurred in construction of Constance Cove House with additional accounts signed by Alex Munro, Agent, Puget Sound Agricultural Company.

I am directed by Secretary Major General Peel to forward, herewith, for the information of Mr Secretary Labouchere copies of a letter and enclosures which have been received from the Governor of Vancouver's Island, regarding certain buildings which have been erected, under his orders, for the accommodation of the North American Boundary Surveying Expedition.

The enclosed was doubtless sent to you, as you surmise, unnecessarily. I had no hand in it; but as it will take more trouble to get it cancelled than it is worth, I recommend you to put it into the fire.
