The minutes answer that very few apptments [sic] will be made directly but it would be fair to tell Barr that Lytton fears he will be unable to offer him employment.

Enclosed is a printed copy of testimonials from J. S. Helmcken, John Kennedy, James Cooper, Edward Langford, and John Tod; as well as a draft from Carnarvon to Barr informing him that he will not likely be employed.

In my communication of Friday last I omitted to ask you to be kind enough to inform me as to when it is expected that the appointments for the New Settlement in North Western America will be made, for which I am a Candidate.
