<p><persName ref="prs:pearson_c">Pearson</persName> writes on behalf of <persName ref="prs:allen_w">Captain William Allen</persName> in order to secure an appointment on <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver Island</placeName> for <persName ref="prs:johns_l">Louisa Johns</persName>’ son.</p>

<p>The minutes agree to consider <persName ref="prs:johns_t">Mr. Johns</persName>' qualifications <q>when the time arrives for settling the est[ablishment] of the new Colony.</q></p>

<p>
Enclosed is a letter from <persName ref="prs:allen_w">Allen</persName> to <persName ref="prs:pearson_c">Pearson</persName> asking that letters supporting
<persName ref="prs:johns_l">Louisa Johns</persName>’ request; a memorial of <persName ref="prs:johns_l">Mrs. Johns</persName> describing the deaths of her husband and eldest son in the
service of <persName ref="prs:queen_victoria">the Queen</persName>, and asking that a position in the public service be found for another son; a letter from
<persName ref="prs:sulivan_sc">S. C. Sulivan</persName> to <persName ref="prs:johns">Captain Johns</persName> thanking him for a suggested alteration in the Mutiny Act; and three letters
of reference for <persName ref="prs:johns_t">Tremenheere Johns</persName>.</p>

I am very reluctant to add another to the applications <choice><abbr>w<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">h</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> no
doubt [hit?] you on all sides, but I cannot refuse the request of
my friend <persName ref="prs:allen_w">Capt<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">n</hi> Allen</persName> that I will lay the enclosed papers
before<pb facs="co_305_09/co_305_09_00647v.jpg"/> 
you, especially as the parties concerned appear to deserve
your consideration on account of public [service?] &amp; possibly
an appointment in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver's Island</placeName> [would] not be a very common
object of ambition.

Anyhow, you will, I feel sure, kindly pardon my troubling you
