Pearson writes on behalf of Captain William Allen in order to secure an appointment on Vancouver Island for Louisa Johns’ son.

The minutes agree to consider Mr. Johns' qualifications when the time arrives for settling the est[ablishment] of the new Colony.

Enclosed is a letter from Allen to Pearson asking that letters supporting Louisa Johns’ request; a memorial of Mrs. Johns describing the deaths of her husband and eldest son in the service of the Queen, and asking that a position in the public service be found for another son; a letter from S. C. Sulivan to Captain Johns thanking him for a suggested alteration in the Mutiny Act; and three letters of reference for Tremenheere Johns.

I am very reluctant to add another to the applications whwhich no doubt [hit?] you on all sides, but I cannot refuse the request of my friend Captn Allen that I will lay the enclosed papers before you, especially as the parties concerned appear to deserve your consideration on account of public [service?] & possibly an appointment in Vancouver's Island [would] not be a very common object of ambition.

Anyhow, you will, I feel sure, kindly pardon my troubling you so far [as] to transmit the papers for your perusal.
