<p><persName ref="prs:lytton_egeb">Lytton</persName> informs <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName> that <persName ref="prs:seymour_m">Rear Admiral Sir Michael Seymour</persName> has been ordered to send the 
<name ref="vsl:tribune" type="vessel">Tribune</name> with <q>as many Supernumerary Marines as she can carry and he can spare</q> to <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver Island</placeName>. The <name ref="vsl:pylades" type="vessel">Plyades</name> and <name ref="vsl:amethyst" type="vessel">Amethyst</name> have also been ordered <q>in the first instance</q> to the island.</p>

I have to acquaint you that directions were sent by the Overland
Mail of the <date when="1858-08-25">25th instant</date><!-- HES dated as Aug beacuse he must have drafted the letter in Aug --> to <persName ref="prs:seymour_m">Rear Admiral Sir Michael Seymour</persName> to despatch
Her Majesty's Ship "<name ref="vsl:tribune" type="vessel">Tribune</name>" to <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver's Island</placeName> with as many
Supernumerary Marines as she can carry and he can spare.

The <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty</orgName> have further apprized that
the Admiral was instructed in May last to send Her Majesty's Ships
"<name ref="vsl:pylades" type="vessel">Plyades</name>"<!--<pb facs="co_398_01/co_398_01_00030r.jpg"/>--> and "<name ref="vsl:amethyst" type="vessel">Amethyst</name>" to the Pacific Station as soon as their services
in India and China might be no longer required, and that he has now been
ordered to send the two ships in the first instance to <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver's Island</placeName>.
