I have duly received your Despatches N<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">os</hi> 42 and 55 of the <date when="1859-04-02">2<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">d</hi></date> &amp;
<date when="1859-04-25">25<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">h</hi> April</date> upon the subject of the repayment of the advances
made by me in the year 1856 to the Federal authorities <fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">in</fw><pb facs="co_305_10/co_305_10_00212v.jpg"/>in
<placeName ref="plc:washington_territory">Washington Territory</placeName> to enable them to prosecute hostilities against <name type="ip" subtype="group">the Indians</name>.

2. With reference thereto I am glad to say that by the last
mail, I received a letter from the Treasurer of the United
States forwarding to me an order for the amount due.

3. I have to return you my warmest thanks for the kind interest
you have manifested in this <fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">matter</fw><pb facs="co_305_10/co_305_10_00213r.jpg"/>matter, and for the course of action
you adopted, to which I believe I may mainly attribute the
repayment of the money.
