Having received a letter from a relative in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouvers Island</placeName>
(<persName ref="prs:monat">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Monat</persName> of the <orgName ref="org:hbc">Hudsons Bay Company</orgName>s service) informing me that
there are Vacancies to be filled up, in <orgName ref="org:treasury">the Treasury</orgName>, at that place;
I beg to offer myself as a Candidate, for a Clerkship in the same; I
am married, and my age is 29 and having a great desire to settle in
that Colony, should deem myself extremely fortunate if I were
successful in obtaining that, or a similar situation. The Security
that might be required, would be furnished by <persName ref="prs:monat">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Monat</persName> who is one of
the oldest residents in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">the Island</placeName>. I am well acquainted with all
business and Commercial matters and can produce most unexceptional
References, and Testimonials as to Respectability, and Integrity &amp;c.
Should my application meet with your kind attention, my very best
endeavours should be given to the duties of my position.
