I transmit to you herewith for your information copies of a
correspondence between the <orgName ref="org:war_office">War Office</orgName>, the <orgName ref="org:foreign_office">Foreign Office</orgName>, the <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Admiralty</orgName>
and this Office on the subject of a suggestion made by <persName ref="prs:hawkins_js">Lieutenant
Colonel Hawkins</persName> <fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">that</fw><pb facs="rg7_g8c_02/rg7_g8c_02_00010v.jpg"/>that the Land, Buildings &amp;c purchased in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouvers
Island</placeName> for the use of the Surveying Party under his command should when
the duties of the Commission are closed be transferred to the Colonial

parties.
</p>
<p>
I have to request that in conformity with the wish of the Lords
<orgName ref="org:admiralty">Commissioners of the Admiralty</orgName> expressed in their letter, of the <date when="1859-07-06">6th
Instant</date> you <fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">will</fw><pb facs="rg7_g8c_02/rg7_g8c_02_00011r.jpg"/>will ascertain from the Senior Naval Officer on the Station
whether it is advisable that the Land in question should be secured for
Naval purposes.
