I am commanded by my <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty</orgName> to send you
herewith for the information of Her Majesty's Secretary of State for
the Colonies a Copy of a letter dated the <date when="1861-05-24">24<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> May</date>
last N<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi> 142 from <persName ref="prs:maitland">Rear Admiral Sir Thos. Maitland</persName>, and
of its enclosures, reporting the proceedings of Her Majesty's Gun Boat <name ref="vsl:forward" type="vessel">Forward</name>, in an attack upon the
<name type="ip" subtype="group">Hydah Indians</name> who had committed several depredations upon the Settlers
in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouvers Island</placeName>, and had also plundered the Schooner
"<name ref="vsl:laurel" type="vessel">Laurel</name>".
