<name ref="vsl:calypso" type="vessel">Calypso</name>'s being <q>ordered home.</q>

I am commanded by my <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty</orgName> to send you
herewith for the information of <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Her Majesty's Secretary of State for Colonial Affairs</persName>
a Copy of a letter dated the
<date when="1861-06-10">10<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> ultimo</date> N<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi> 165
from <persName ref="prs:maitland">Rear Adm<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">l</hi> Sir Tho<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">s</hi> Maitland</persName>,
representing the necessity for increasing the Force on the Pacific Station and at <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver's Island</placeName>
and I am to state that a Ship now nearly ready for Sea will be sent
out in a few days to the Station.

as a protection ag<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi> <name type="ip" subtype="group">the Indians</name>.
</ab>
<p>
The Ship which is to sail in a few days might convey the 500 Rifles destined for the Volunteers of
<placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">V.C. Is<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">d</hi></placeName>. But it seems that to
accomplish that object an<pb facs="co_305_18/co_305_18_00035r.jpg"/> urgent appeal must be made to the War
Office.

proceedings may be stopped and it will be for you to acquaint the
