<persName ref="prs:murdoch_twc">Murdoch</persName> acknowledges <persName ref="prs:elliot_tf">Elliot</persName>'s letter, dated <date when="1861-06-03">3 June 1861</date>, that forwarded the
<orgName ref="org:hbc">HBC</orgName>'s letter, which <q>stated that in compliance with the desire expressed by the Duke of <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Newcastle</persName>, instructions
had been sent to the Agent of the <orgName ref="org:hbc">Company</orgName> in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouvers Island</placeName> to suspend the sale of the
Water frontage in the Town of <placeName ref="plc:victoria">Victoria</placeName> claimed by the <orgName ref="org:hbc">Company</orgName> as their private property.</q>

I have to acknolwedge your letter of <date when="1861-06-03">3<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rd</hi> instant</date> enclosing one from
the Governor of the <orgName ref="org:hbc">Hudson's Bay C<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi></orgName>, in which it is stated that in
compliance with the desire expressed by the <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Duke of Newcastle</persName>,
instructions had been sent to the Agent of the Company in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouvers Island</placeName> to suspend the sale of the Water frontage in the Town of
<placeName ref="plc:victoria">Victoria</placeName> claimed by<pb facs="co_305_18/co_305_18_00168v.jpg"/> the Company as their private property.
</p>
<p>
2. Under these circumstances there is nothing more to be done in the
matter at present.
