requesting <q>an order of admission to be an Attorney and Solicitor</q> in the colony of <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver Island</placeName>.
The minutes indicate that this is <persName ref="prs:copland">Copland</persName>'s second request and that <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName> has not yet responded
to his first.

in the Colony of <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouvers' Island</placeName>, praying for an order of admission to be an Attorney and Solicitor of the court
of Civil Justice of that Island; and to request Your Grace's favorable Consideration of the Petition.

2742. Inform the writer that a reference was made to the <choice><abbr>Gov<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi></abbr><expan>Governor</expan></choice>
of <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">V. Couver Island</placeName> last <date when="1861-03">March</date> on the subject of <persName ref="prs:copland">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Copland</persName>'s
admission to practice as an Attorney in the Supreme Court of
that<pb facs="co_305_18/co_305_18_00422r.jpg"/> Colony, and that the <choice><abbr>Gov<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi></abbr><expan>Governor</expan></choice> has not yet communicated his
opinion thereupon to the <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Duke of Newcastle</persName>. Add that without
the report of that Officer it is impossible for His Grace to
state whether it will be proper or not to comply with <persName ref="prs:copland">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Copland</persName>'s application.

N.B. I think that if we do not hear from the <choice><abbr>Gov<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi></abbr><expan>Governor</expan></choice> on this matter<pb facs="co_305_18/co_305_18_00422v.jpg"/>
in the course of the next month or so he might be reminded of it.
