<persName ref="prs:berens_hh">Berens</persName> writes <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Newcastle</persName> to acknowledge receipt of <persName ref="prs:elliot_tf">Elliot</persName>'s letter informing him that
<q>the Paymaster General has received the necessary authority to pay to the <orgName ref="org:hbc">Hudsons Bay Company</orgName> whenever it may be applied for by them the sum
of £32,500 in discharge of the claims of the Company in respect to the resumption of <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouvers Island</placeName> by the Crown</q>
and informs the <orgName ref="org:colonial_office">Colonial Office</orgName> that <persName ref="prs:fraser_t">Fraser</persName> will be at the <q>Paymaster Generals Office</q> to collect the money on
<q>Monday next.</q>

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of <persName ref="prs:elliot_tf">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Elliot</persName>'s letter
of the <date when="1862-10-03">1<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">st</hi> instant</date> in which he informs me by the direction of your
Grace that the Paymaster General has received the necessary authority
to pay to the <orgName ref="org:hbc">Hudsons Bay Company</orgName> whenever it may be applied for by
them the sum of £32,500 in discharge of the claims of the Company<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">in</fw><pb facs="co_305_19/co_305_19_00510v.jpg"/> in
respect to the resumption of <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouvers Island</placeName> by the Crown.

In conveying to your Grace my thanks and those of my Colleagues for
this communication I beg to state that <persName ref="prs:fraser_t">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Thomas Fraser</persName>, the
Secretary of the Company has been authorised to receive payment and
that on the assumption that Monday next will be convenient for the
purpose he will attend on that day at the Paymaster Generals Office
for the purpose of receiving the money.
