Hamilton forwards Andoe's report on the HBC's compensation claim for costs incurred in the colony of Vancouver Island prior to its proposed reconveyance from the company to the Crown and requests that if Newcastle concurs with the report, that he contact the HBC and indicate that their Lordships will be ready to consider any arrangement that may be proposed for the final settlement of the claims. Elliot minutes that Andoe proposes to reduce the [HBC's] claim from £53,569 to £27,412. An attached document indicates Newcastle's concurrence with Andoe's conclusions.

With reference to former correspondence on the subject of the examination of the Accounts of the Hudson's Bay Company in respect of Vancouver's Island, I am desired by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majestys Treasury to transmit to you the enclosed copy of a Report on this subject from Mr Andoe, dated 14 Ultimo.

I am to request that you willmove move the Duke of Newcastle, if he shall concur in the views and opinions expressed in that Report, to communicate with the Hudson's Bay Company; and I am to state that Their Lordships will be ready to consider any arrangement that may be proposed for the final settlement of the claims of the Company.
