<p>
Referring to your letter of the <date when="1863-10-31">31<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">st</hi> Ultimo</date>, I have the honor to
acquaint you for the information of the <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Duke of Newcastle</persName> that at the

unnecessary, as they are in the habit constantly of complying with
similar requisitions from other Colonies<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">yet</fw><pb facs="co_305_21/co_305_21_00072v.jpg"/> yet as <persName ref="prs:pemberton_jd">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Pemberton</persName> has

be more satisfactory to the Colonial Authorities that he should
remain in this Country until it's completion which may be expected in
the course of a month or six weeks—though Contracting Engineers
operations are very uncertain.

<p>
I may add that if <persName ref="prs:pemberton_jd">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Pemberton</persName> should leave this Country before the
