With reference to Mr Elliot's letter of the 13th Instant respecting the investment of the Sinking Fund provided for in "the Vancouver Island Road & Harbor Loan Act 1862," I am desired by The Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information of the Duke of Newcastle, that Their Lordships are of opinion that the sums to be provided as Sinking Fund under the 13th Section of the Act in question may be invested in the Consolidated £3 per Cent Annuities or in the New £3 per Cent Annuities, and They make no objection to the Trusteesproposed proposed to be selected by the Secretary of State.

Rogers to Gordon Gairdner, Chief Clerk, advising that he had been selected as one of the trustees of the sinking fund.
