I have the honor to transmit copies of letters named in the margin * having reference to the bonds of the Treasurerof of this Colony.

You will observe that Mr Watson applied on the 31st August 1864 to have certain bonds which were supposed to exist cancelled and others substituted therefor. After a careful search and inquiry I failed to discover any bonds entered into by the Treasurer or his sureties, nor could I satisfactorily ascertain into whose custody they had been given.

Having made careful inquiry regarding Mr Kenneth McKenzie's solvency and respectability I am quite satisfied on both points—I have therefore accepted him as Mr Watson's sole surety subject to your approval.
