Lugard requests that maps of Esquimalt Harbour be sent to Colonel Moody. Jadis provides a copy of the map that fits the description provided by Moody along with a minute that notes Jadis had previously shown the map to Moody but who had pronounced it not to be the Map to which he referred.

With reference to previous correspondence which has taken place relative to plans of British Columbia;

I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to transmit to you, for Mr Secretary Cardwell's information, the accompanying copy of a letter received from Colonel Moody R.E., late Commanding Royal Engineer in that Colony, on the above subject, and I am to signify Lord de Grey's requestthat that you will move Mr Cardwell to favor him with two copies of the maps therein referred to, should the Statement in the last paragraph of Colonel Moody's letter be correct.

Mr Elliot I place with this letter the only Map of V.C. Island which we possess & which answers Colonel Moody's description as to its being lithographed in London, but I showed it to him the other day when he pronounced it not to be the Map to which he referred. Send it however to the W.O. as the only one we have? VJ 18 Augt

Copy, R.C. Moody to Director of Works, 12 August 1864, asking to be sent maps of Esquimalt Harbour that were lithographed in London by the Surveyor General's Department of Vancouver Island, copies of which were believed to have been forwarded to the Colonial Office.
Rogers to War Office, 20 September 1864, forwarding copy of a map of Victoria and part of Esquimalt prepared by Pemberton, the Surveyor General, and advising that the Admiralty was said to have some very good maps of the area.
