<p><persName ref="prs:head_ew">Head</persName> forwards a copy of a letter in which the <orgName ref="org:hbc">HBC</orgName> instructs its officers to comply with any requests for information regarding land sales in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver Island</placeName>. <persName ref="prs:head_ew">Head</persName> assures <persName ref="prs:elliot_tf">Elliot</persName> that <persName ref="prs:head_ew">Head</persName>’s office will also comply, but that he cannot see <q>what information is sought for which is not already accessible to the Government in the Public Registry of the Colony.</q></p>

In reply to your letter of the <date when="1865-03-31">31<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">st</hi> of March</date> I have to request that
you will inform <persName ref="prs:cardwell">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Cardwell</persName> that the letter of which a copy is
enclosed will be sent to the Company's Officers at <placeName ref="plc:victoria">Victoria</placeName> by the
next Mail.
</p>
<p>
In the meantime if there is any information on the subject in this
Office which is desired the Governor and<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">Committee</fw><pb facs="co_305_27/co_305_27_00268v.jpg"/> Committee will be quite
ready to furnish it.
</p>
<p>
It is difficult to see what information is sought for which is not
already accessible to the Government in the Public Registry of the
Colony.
