12th January 1865 To Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies Sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 8th inst inclosing duplicate of a Dispatch from Governor Kennedy of Vancouver Island, sent to me in answer to my request for recent information from that Colony to assist me in preparing a Volume for the press on Vancouver's Island and British Columbia.

I beg that you will accept my sincere thanks for your kind attention to my inquiries.
