Referring to my Despatch N<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi> 38 dated <date when="1866-06-02">2<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">nd</hi> June 1866</date> I have the honor
to transmit the copy of a letter from the Superintendent of Police
from which it appears that the estate of the late <persName ref="prs:curry_j">John Curry</persName> has now
been realized. I have caused a communication to be addressed to <persName ref="prs:curry_mrs">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi>
Curry</persName> to<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">inform</fw><pb facs="co_305_29/co_305_29_00052v.jpg"/> inform her of the fact and to explain to her the necessity
of sending to this Colony the documents requisite to procure the
payment of the money to her.

Alluding to the interview which I had the pleasure of having with you
on Thursday last I find on looking to my papers that a letter was
addressed from the Colonial Secretary's Office on the <date when="1866-08-06">6<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of August</date>
to <persName ref="prs:curry_mrs">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> Curry</persName> &amp; signed by <persName ref="prs:young_wag">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> W<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">m</hi> A.G. Young</persName>. I addressed a letter
to him on behalf of <persName ref="prs:curry_mrs">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> Curry</persName> on the <date when="1866-09-26">26<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of Sept<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi></date> suggesting
that a certificate of relationship and identity from the clergyman of the
Parish would under all the circumstances of the case be a sufficient
guarantee to the <orgName ref="org:colonial_office">Colonial Office</orgName> on handing over her sons effects.
</p>

 To this I have had<pb facs="co_305_29/co_305_29_00057v.jpg"/> no reply.

of <persName ref="prs:blackwood_aj">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Blackwood</persName>. It seems to me that there is much room for doubt
whether <persName ref="prs:pease_jw">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Pease</persName>'s letter would reach <persName ref="prs:young_wag">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Young</persName> and that it is safer
to write some such despatch as the present, in order to continue the
corresponsence in regular channels.
