It is essential for the interests of the Hudsons Bay Company in Vancouver Island that the authority of the Emigration Commissioners to execute the Indenture of 1862 on the part of the Crown should be officially notified by the right Honorable the Secretary of State to the Governor of that Colony.

The efficacy of this Indenture is disputed because thispoint point is not taken for granted by a purchaser.

I have therefore to request that the Secretary of State will be good enough to inform the Governor of Vancouver Island officially of the fact that the Emigration Commissioners had the necessary authority to execute that Deed.

I would write to the Governor to state that the HBC have requested him to notify officially to him (the GovrGovernor) that the indenture of 1862 (describing it) was executed by the Emign Commrs under proper authority.

That Mr C has no difficulty in informing the GovrGovernor what he will doubtless have collected from previous correspondence, that the Emign Commrs were authorised by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to execute the Indenture on behalf of the Crown.

Draft dph and let me know (with the draft) in what form the authority was given. I shdshould like to see.
