<p>
It is essential for the interests of the <orgName ref="org:hbc">Hudsons Bay Company</orgName> in
<placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver Island</placeName> that the authority of the Emigration Commissioners
to execute the Indenture of <date when="1862">1862</date> on the part of the Crown should be
officially notified by the right Honorable the Secretary of State
to the Governor of that Colony.
</p>
<p>
 The efficacy of this Indenture is disputed because this<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">point</fw><pb facs="co_305_30/co_305_30_00231v.jpg"/> point is
not taken for granted by a purchaser.
</p>
<p>
I have therefore to request that the Secretary of State will be
good enough to inform the Governor of <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver Island</placeName> officially
of the fact that the Emigration Commissioners had the necessary
authority to execute that Deed.
</p>

him to notify officially to him (the <choice><abbr>Gov<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi></abbr><expan>Governor</expan></choice>) that the<pb facs="co_305_30/co_305_30_00232r.jpg"/> indenture of
<date when="1862">1862</date> (describing it) was executed by the Emig<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">n</hi> Comm<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> under
proper authority.

That <persName ref="prs:cardwell">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> C</persName> has no difficulty in informing the <choice><abbr>Gov<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi></abbr><expan>Governor</expan></choice> what he will
doubtless have collected from previous correspondence, that the
Emig<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">n</hi> Comm<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> were authorised by the Secretary of State for the
Colonies to execute the Indenture on behalf of the Crown.
</p>
<p>
Draft dph and let me know (with the draft) in what form the
authority was given. I <choice><abbr>sh<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">d</hi></abbr><expan>should</expan></choice> like to see.
