I have the honor to transmit to you a copy of a correspondence between Sir Edmund Head, this Office and Governor Seymour respecting the introduction of Spirituous Liquors among the Indians on the Peace River and in the Athabasca District.

I should be glad to learn whether you can suggest any measures that mightproperly properly be taken with the view of checking the evil.

Copy, Elliot to Seymour, 27 April 1866, enclosing a letter "relative to the introduction of spirituous liquors among the Indians by Traders who have visited the Peace River and Athabasca Districts from British Columbia," and planning a meeting with Head to determine what steps should be taken "to check this evil."
