Enclosed is Carnarvon to the Secretary of the Hudson’s Bay Company thanking him for the communication;
and an extract from Douglas to Fraser describing the current situation in the gold fields and in Victoria.
I am directed by the Governor and Committee of the Hudson's Bay
Company to transmit, for the information of Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton,
the accompanying extract of a letter from Governor Douglas, dated 5th October 1858.
