Sir,
I am directed by Secretary Major General Peel to transmit to you for the information of Secretary Sir Edward Lytton, the enclosed copy of a letter from the Admiralty, containing a list of the Provisions shipped on board the "Euphrates," for the use of the Detachment of Royal Engineers proceeding to British Columbia, with a Statement of the cost of the several articles enumerated.
It being understood that theManuscript image Colony is to defray all expenses connected with the supply of Rations &c to this Detachment, and that Colonel Moody is to render an account thereof to the Governor, Major General Peel, conceives that the Settlement of the claim in question, with any others of the same nature, should be effected between the Admiralty and the Colonial Office.
I am to add that the Lords of the Admiralty have been informed that such is the view taken by General Peel of the course to be adopted.

Request the Treasury to discharge this claim, and apprize the War Office accly.
These stores are, as I understand, a portion of the 12 months requisition of Colonel Moody which was agreed to, but which could not be sent in the Thames City or Briseis.
