Having done myself the honor to address a Letter to His Royal
Highness the Com
r in Chief soliciting the indulgence of Remission
money in the purchase of Land to which officers upon Retiring from
the Army are sometimes admitted—and having selected
British
Columbia as the Colony to which I purpose Emigrating with my
family,
Major Genl Sir C. Yorke informs me in reply in a Letter
dated 15
th inst:, that he cannot satisfactorily answer my question
as it is not known whether the Colony of
British Columbia is one of
those in which these advantages will be accorded to officers of the
Army—and recommends me to apply to the Colonial Office. May I
request the honor of being informed if there is any obstacle to the
accomplishment of my wishes, my past Military Service qualifying me
for the indulgence.
