Kernaghan re-asserts his conviction that he should have an appointment in British Columbia. He also complains that the HBC is not buying gold from First Nations miners at fair
value and hopes that “orders have been sent out to prevent a continuance of this injustice.”

As I did not go to Ireland your letter of 5th was sent to me here.
I must feel obliged by Sir Edw Bulwer Lytton's opinion.
As no person did so much since 1854 to enlighten the people here &
in Canada on the Hudson's Bay Question, I, at least thought, taking my references
&
testimonials into account that I should have had an appointment in the new Colony.
Owing to the Indians not being allowed to sell their gold to the best buyer, the Co buy it from them @ 15$, much under the Value. No doubt orders have been sent out
to prevent a continuance of this injustice.
