I transmit to you herewith the Copy of a letter1 which I have received from Mr John Miles, residing in Canada, applying for the grant of a certain Gold Quartz vein in British Columbia, together with a Copy of the answerwhichManuscript image which I have returned to him through the Governor of the Province.
Mr Miles appears to found his claim on priority of discovery and I think that any application which he may address to you for permission to work the mine to which he alludes should be favorably considered, subject of course to existing local regulations and conditions.
