See Treasy/8556.
These Bills include—1st a sum of £1600 for the Regimental Pay of the Engineers. 2nd £1479 for working pay to the Marines.
The Treasury at present accept all Bills drawn from British Columbia for whatever service, charging them to the Parliamentary Grant. Ask them therefore to do so in this case.
But the regimental pay is to be defrayed by the War Department. It would be desirable therefore to get a statement from the Governor of the amounts, if any that have already been drawn on this account and to instruct him to continue to distinguish them in future. [Hisfer?] he has not done this.
As to the working pay of the Marines, we have not yet ascertained by whom it has been authorized and the Treasury must therefore be asked to accept as on the previous occasion (See 7337) the Bill for that service.
Write to the Treasury & Governor accordingly.
