Sir,
In transmitting herewith the accompanying documents relative to the Government cargo shipped in the "Thames City" for New Westminster in September 1858; I request that you will be pleased to inform me of the amount of tonnage on which the brokers of the Vessel should be paid freight Manuscript image freight, and whether any, and if so, what charge is to be made against them on account of Stores damaged or deficient.

I know of no other mode of ascertaining this point than by a reference to the War Office—the service having been a military one—or sending the papers to the Governor for Col: Moody to report on them.

We must ask the War Office whether they can enable us to answer the inquiry of the Admiralty (which is made with their usual brevity and obscurity).
