In reply to your letter of the [cut off file] I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you for the information of the Secretary of State that They will not object to the payment of the cost of the passages, from this Country to British Columbia, of the wives and families of certain of the Non-Commissioned Officers and Privates belonging to the Detachment of Royal Engineers stationed in that Colony, as submitted by you—the payment to be considered as "an advance" to be repaid from the Colonial Revenue of British Columbia.

I think we should now instruct the Land Board to send these parties off by the vessel, if possible, which goes the end of this month to B. Columbia viâ Cape Horn, adding that the expense will be defrayed by the Treasury, though the account must pass through this Office.
When the Land Board has reported the completion of the business then write to the Govr informing him of the departure of the Vessel, & enjoining measures for Manuscript image repayment.
